Lots on in Norwich this weekend

After the excitement of the Tour of Britain cyle race which was over in a flash, we still have lots going on in and around Norwich this weekend.

Norwich Sound and Vision is an annual music & multi-media convention taking place for the first time between 16th and 18th September 2010 in Norwich, and consists of a 3 day festival and one-day conference featuring expert speakers from the music, film, TV and games industries and a series of gigs, film screenings, and other interactive performances.

The only event of its kind in the east of England it offers valuable professional guidance for emerging musicians to help them get along in the industry. As well as the convention, there are lots of great local band gigs too see http://www.norwichsoundandvision.co.uk for details.

In Great Yarmouth there is tons of fun over the same weekend with Out There, an international street arts festival run by Seachange Arts. Two days of free fantastic family entertainment not to be missed. Trains run from Norwich to Great Yarmouth and it is only 20 minutes by road so treat yourself and family and friends to a day at the seaside. See  http://www.outtherefestival.com for details

Some basic facts

  • Norwich was one of the shortlisted cities bidding to be the 1st UK City of Culture in 2013
  • Derry/Londonderry was chosen out of a field which included Norwich, Sheffield and Birmingham by an independent panel of judges led by Phil Redmond
  • The Norwich bid was led by a bid team made up of representatives of the Council - the lead body, the City of Norwich Partnership and representatives of major cultural organisations in the city through consultation with a wider range of groups, advisors and individuals
  • Although Norwich didn't win, the bidding and consultation process will help to develop a 2020 cultural vision for the next 10 years in the city through a new cultural partnership for Norwich
  • The Norwich bid was supported by Stephen Fry, Amit Chaudhri, Miranda Raison, Richard Jordan, Marco Pierre White,more than 6000 Facebook supporters, the Evening News and EDP, the business community, dozens of arts organisations and thousands of people across the city, county and region
  • Norwich is already a city of culture!
